Mind Builders Africa is committed to protecting the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of everyone on our programmes and projects.

Read about our commitment to safeguarding

At Mind Builders Africa Foundation, we have a responsibility to protect the youth, women, persons with disabilities, and communities we serve from harm in all our programmes, partnerships, and activities.

We must do everything reasonably possible to keep those affected by our work safe and protect them from all forms of violence, exploitation, abuse, neglect, harassment, discrimination, mistreatment, and sexual misconduct. We must also respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns within our organisation, our partners, and the communities where we work.

Our safeguarding work focuses on creating safe, respectful, and inclusive environments for everyone who comes into contact with our programmes. We recognise that some individuals may face increased risks because of age, disability, social exclusion, economic circumstances, unequal power relationships, or other vulnerabilities, and we are committed to ensuring they are protected and supported.

Our Safeguarding Policy was adopted in 2026 and is guided by the following principles:

  1. Empowerment: We support people to make informed decisions and participate safely in our programmes and activities.
  2. Prevention: We take proactive steps to prevent harm, abuse, exploitation, and safeguarding risks before they occur.
  3. Protection: We work to protect individuals who may be vulnerable or at risk and ensure appropriate support is available when concerns arise.
  4. Accountability
We take responsibility for safeguarding concerns and respond promptly, fairly, and transparently.
  5. Partnership
We work with communities, partners, suppliers, and stakeholders to promote safe and inclusive environments.
  6. Proportionality
Our response to safeguarding concerns is appropriate to the nature and level of risk involved.

Safeguarding Resources

Our resources provide simple guidance on safeguarding, reporting concerns, and accessing support.

When Should You Report a Concern?

You should raise a safeguarding concern if you:

  • Witness abuse, exploitation, harassment, neglect, discrimination, or inappropriate conduct.
  • Believe someone may be at risk of harm.
  • Experience behaviour that makes you feel unsafe, uncomfortable, intimidated, or disrespected.
  • Have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a participant, community member, colleague, or volunteer.
  • Become aware of misconduct involving a staff member, facilitator, mentor, consultant, supplier, contractor, partner, or representative of Mind Builders Africa.

All concerns are treated seriously, handled confidentially, and responded to appropriately.

When in doubt, report.
